Most of our employment opportunities involve temporary reader/evaluator positions at our scoring centers in Tampa, Florida; Aurora, Illinois; Coldwater, Kansas; Baltimore, Maryland; Grand Rapids and Ypsilanti, Michigan; Charlotte, Durham, Greensboro, and Wilmington, North Carolina; and Nashville, Tennessee. If you have a four-year college degree in any field, you may be qualified to join our temporary staff as a reader/evaluator of student test items. Our need for reader/evaluators is greatest in the spring (January through June), and to a lesser extent in the fall (September through November). We offer paid training, flexible project-by-project scheduling, and a professional yet relaxed working atmosphere. Use the contact chart below to contact the human resources representative for the scoring site nearest you.
We occasionally have permanent positions available at various scoring sites, as well as other temporary opportunities. For instance, our Research and Development department sometimes employs item writers on a contractual basis. These item writing assignments are generally conducted through our Durham, NC, headquarters.
Use the contact chart below to contact the human resources representative for the scoring site where your selected position is being offered. Be sure to indicate in your correspondence whether you are interested in a permanent position or a temporary/contractual position. You will be notified by mail or phone if you are selected for an interview.
The
Reader/Evaluator Position
If you qualify as a
reader/evaluator, you will be eligible to work on a number of our
projects. Most projects require readers to score essays for content,
organization, grammatical convention, and/or the student's ability to
communicate and to respond to a specific directive. Some projects
involve scoring test items in math, science, social studies, or other
subject areas. The tests you will score come from many different
states and from students at all grade levels, elementary through
college, depending on the project.
Each project has its own scoring criteria; therefore, we conduct paid training at the beginning of each project. Reader/evaluators must be able to accept and use the required scoring procedure and maintain consistent and reliable scoring throughout the project. They also must be willing to operate in a repetitive task situation and maintain confidentiality.
